As the song says, “I was born in a small town,” a college community where everyone knew everyone else, and kids played safely and happily across many backyards “in the good old summertime,” as the song says. Against that backdrop I was brought up to go to church and believe what I was taught, though the cementing of my faith was an unfolding that took place over several years. At the age of 9 or 10 I was asked by our pastor if I was sure I was going to heaven; I didn’t have an answer. He responded, “Well, I KNOW I’m going to heaven.” That led to his sharing what the Bible says about Jesus: living, dying, and rising again for sinners like him—and you—and me, and that we also can have that confidence in our eternal destination. That experience awakened me to my need for a Savior, and it led me to trust in His grace, and commit my life to living for Jesus Christ, who died for me. And, as the song says, “Because He lives, I can face tomorrow!”
