Suffering You Should Flee // Matthew 24:15-28

May 11, 2026

This is the second of three sermons in which Jesus answers the disciples' questions about the destruction of the temple and the end of the age. His focus is on the kind of distress that anticipates and leads to the temple's destruction in AD 70. This involves suffering that the disciples are called to flee rather than to endure. It is ended not by the coming of the Son of Man as a deliverer, but rather it is cut short and restrained for the sake of God's chosen (elect) people.
